The FO Encyclopedia to almost everything about Freesky Online

The FO Encyclopedia to almost everything about Freesky Online
(Meant to be better than the Official FO Encyclopedia)

Guide Introduction:
This guide is for people who don’t know something about Freesky Online and need answers. If you can’t find what you want in this guide, please see the last section of this guide for details on what to do. If there is anything missing, incorrect or a suggestion for this guide, please inform me through a post on this thread, I will do my best to follow up on it as soon as possible.
P.S. Moderators please help deal with any spamming in this guide.

Credits:
This guide is literally a compilation of most of the knowledge found on the forums and the official Freesky Encyclopedia on the main FO site (which makes this guide more than 90K bytes long), so credits actually goes to everyone.

Notes:
1.
There will be links to other threads or the FO Official Encyclopedia often appearing in this guide. Pictures in this guide are also mostly taken from other people’s threads and the official Freesky guide.

2.
This guide is LONG, so people who are using it for reference, please read the table of contents first. Also, use the CTRL+F hotkey combination on your keyboard to search faster for the information you need, using the numerical tags of each section. If not, be prepared for some heavy reading.

3.
This guide is split into 9 major sections (Section 1 to 5 is on the 1st page of this thread, Section 6 to 9 is on the 2nd page of this thread):

Section 1

1.0 Starting Out
1.1 Signing up and Logging in
Info for Signing up. (Official guide)
Info for Logging in. (Official guide)

1.2 General Game interface
*1.2.1 City Controls
All the control that needs to be done to your city will be accessible in the circle of tabs that appears when you click on your city's image on the Big Map in-game. Here is an explanation of what each one does:

View: Switches your view to the city map.

Building List: This will open up your city building list, all the buildings that you have and those that you have yet to construct will be listed there. This list is IMPORTANT; you will practically be able to control EVERYTHING in the city from it, from upgrading buildings to researching technology, from terraforming to lining up jobs for your factories to do.

Change name: Lets you change the name of your city.

*Form Army*: Another important tab. When you want to form an army to float over your city for defense, this is the tab you need. A common misconception regarding this tab is people think that they MUST have a hero in the fleet to be able to form an army. This is wrong, the fleet can be formed even without a hero.

*Levy Taxes*: This tab lets you levy taxes on the people of ALL the cities you have, where 1 population = 1 gold gained. Level 1 and 2 Lords (NOT the castle level of the city) will also be able to gain sandstones from the taxes, where 1 population = 2 sandstone gained. Any sandstone gained from this tax will be sent to your Main City.

Trade List: This lets you access and manage the list of resources/parts that you have put up for sale on the player market. It does NOT include the blueprints you put up on the Advanced Parts Market.

Add a trade: This brings you straight to the page where you can choose to sell/buy resources/parts to the empire or (to/from) players.

*1.2.2 Lord Levels and Lord Information

**1.2.2.1 Lord Levels and reputation
Lords have to earn reputation (experience) to raise levels. The amount of reputation (experience) is shown on the top right corner of the screen, it will be something like this: Rep.: 1234/5000. In this example, the lord will level up once their reputation reaches 5000. The amount of reputation needed for leveling up will be multiplied by 10 for every level up.

For reputation, there are 2 ways to gain it.
The first is with commerce reputation, more info in Section 3.8.1
The second is with Military reputation, more info in Section 4.5

Note: Every 100 reputation gained will grant you 1 Skill Point. Skill Points are used for researching and improving your skills/technologies.

**1.2.2.2 Lord Information (Lord Color and Progress Record)
What is the Lord Information bar? It is where you view your Lord's settings and progress.
The Lord Color is just a color used to identify your ship in battle, with no other uses. It also shows up on your icon in the mini-map.
The Progress Record is split into 2 parts, one part for Commerce and the other for your battles at player cities.

The Lord Information bar is located on the top right area of your in-game screen, here:
(by instantzeny13)

While the Lord Color is located here:
(by instantzeny13)

You can choose your Lord color using the palette here:
(by instantzeny13)
NOTE: There are some players who get black(shows as grey on the mini-map) as their Lord color when they first sign up. Their ship's color will be the same as the Enhanced Beast Army. For more info click here, and please read the WHOLE thread.
Or you can find info here at piplup2000's FAQ to the little orbs on the mini map.

1.3 Newbie quest
*1.3.1 What are newbie quests?
Newbie quests are the quests that you get when you first register and log in. They help you progress faster so that you will be able to cope with the competition after coming out of protection period. They are there to help you out, so you really should complete them, or you will fall behind other players.

*1.3.2 List of newbie quests
You can find the full list of Newbie Quests here. (bbrtki's guide)

1.4 Protection Period
*1.4.1 What is protection period for?
Protection period is the 7-day period set for newbies to develop themselves without being attacked by anyone.

*1.4.2 What I can and cannot do while in protection period
You can't attack other players, or go to the NPC Zone during the protection period. (NOTE: Lots of players have wasted their first 2 Transition Crystals by attempting to go to the NPC Zone while they were in protection. Please do not commit this mistake.) However, you will be able to attack the Floating Unicorn Army in your own territory. Also, you can Scout out and attack the Enhanced Beast Armies in the empty towns around you, even the ones out of your territory.

*1.4.3 Can I cancel my protection period and end it faster?
No, you can't. It is there to protect you and let you develop. Moreover, it would take at least a week to have a strong enough fleet for going to the NPC Zone, and the same goes for attacking other strong players. Unless you get your Lord to Level 2 before protection period ends. That would mean you are strong enough to not need protection anymore, so the system will instantly end the protection period for you.

1.5 Tips for advancing
*1.5.1 Stabilize your resource production
Level up the resource producing units in your city and ensure a steady flow of each resource.

*1.5.2 Increase your number of cities
Increasing the number of cities means you have would a faster rate of resource production, and a greater income per hour.

*1.5.3 Build an army for defense
Build up an army for defending your city, preventing other players from invading you.

*1.5.4 Choose your Character Type (Class) and progress in that direction
Choose your character class and progress accordingly, more info in Section 2.1

Section 2

2.0 Character Types (Classes), Leveling Up (Reputation), Earning/Gaining Gold, Character Diplomacy, Governor-General, Relocation, Heroes
2.1 Character Types (Classes)
*2.1.1 Types (Classes) of characters in FO and their strengths/weaknesses (Credits to ptarth for his comments.)
**2.1.1.1 Hybrid Empire
A hybrid empire is one that walks both paths of the businessman and the general. Thus, most of them have fine reputation in both Commerce and Military. The benefit of this type of empire is that they are practically self-sufficient, being able to supply themselves with whatever they need. A nice balanced type of empire. However they are weaker than a commerce empire in terms of commercial production, and are also weaker than a military empire in terms of military power. This is due to their skill points being spread over a broader technology research base than the other two types of empires. (They research almost everything.)

**2.1.1.2 Commerce Empire
A commerce empire has a weaker army than a military empire (mostly just enough for self-defense), though it has the strongest commerce among the three types of empires, as they focus most of their effort into resource/parts production. They have high levels of commerce-related technology (where they focus most of their skill points) and focus on increasing their commerce reputation through manufacturing parts and selling them to the Empire or other players (especially military empires). Specializing in one type of resource is commonly seen among commerce empires, as it greatly cuts both the budget (skill points and gold) needed for research, and the cost (sandstone and gold) needed for building high level resource production/storage buildings.

**2.1.1.3 Military Empire
A military empire has the benefit of having the strongest army among the three types of empires, enabling them to defend themselves efficiently and also go on regular rampages against other players. However, due to them focusing most of their efforts into building a strong army, they are lacking in terms of production, and they often have to buy their required resources/parts off the market at player prices. They get most of the gold for purchasing resources/parts by invading other players. Most of their skill points are focused on researching military-related technology, granting them better airships than the other two type of empires.

2.2 Leveling Up your Lord
*2.2.1 Why level up?
Leveling up your Lord enables you to access higher level NPC Zones and purchase higher level treasure boxes.

*2.2.2 How to level up? (Gaining Reputation)
Leveling up is done through gaining reputation. For reputation, there are 2 ways to gain it.
The first is with commerce reputation, more info in Section 3.8.1
The second is with Military reputation, more info in Section 4.5

2.3 Earning/Gaining Gold
You will need gold for a lot of things in FO, if you want to make any progress in the game.

Selling parts/resources
Gain gold by selling goods, more info in Section 3.9.1

City taxes
Gain gold from city taxes, more info in Section 1.2.1

Selling blueprints
Gain gold by selling blueprints, more info in Section 4.2.2.1.1 on getting them, and Section 3.9.3 for info on how to sell them.

Getting gold from treasure boxes
Once you get to Lord Level 2 and are able to open treasure boxes, you may get gold randomly from them.

Getting gold as battle rewards
You can get gold from winning airship battles against NPCs and players.

Getting gold through invasions
Get gold through invading other players or NPC Zones.

Getting taxes from your colony
You can get taxes automatically sent to you every 12 hours without any work or effort on your part using the Governor-general system to collect taxes.

*2.3.1 Buying gold using the gold trade
**2.3.1.1 What is the gold trade?
It is a system where you can use Sky Points to buy in-game gold from other players. It has its own specialized market where you can compare the exchange rates to find the best seller.

**2.3.1.2 Where do I find the gold trade?
It is among the row of tabs at the top right corner of your in-game window. Just click on the one named "Gold Deal".

**2.3.1.3 What are the requirements for a gold trade?
Your Lord Level needs to be Level 2 or above, and you need to have LOTS of in-game gold/Sky Points to use.

2.4 Character Diplomacy, Governor-General
*2.4.1 Types of Diplomacy
Governor-general: The governor-general of the colony can seize the client states' cities as he likes. (Detailed info in Section 2.4.2)
Friendly: You are on friendly terms.
Neutral: You are complete strangers, not wanting anything to do with each other. You can choose to attack each other by declaring war.
Hostile: You are at war with each other. You can choose to occupy or plunder each other at any time.

*2.4.2 Governor-General
**2.4.2.1 What is a Governor-general?
A governor-general relation is a relationship where one is the governor-general of a colony, while the others are client states of it.
Even more detailed info can be found here. (Yarg's guide)

**2.4.2.2 How to get a colony?
Info from the Official guide here.

**2.4.2.3 Effects
The leader of the colony can seize the client states' cities as he likes.
NOTE: It is currently impossible to seize a client state in-game.

**2.4.2.4 Colony Taxing
The governor-general can get taxes from the client states automatically sent to them every 12 hours without any work or effort on their part.
NOTE: The taxing system for governor-generals does not seem to be working at the moment.

2.5 Relocation
*2.5.1 What is it?
It is when you move to another territory other than the one you are currently residing in.
Detailed guide here. (SkorpPT's guide)

*2.5.2 Why do it?
1. You don't like your current spot.
2. You want to run far away from the neighbour who keeps invading you.
3. You are looking for a nice safe place to settle down and develop a strong army in secret.
4. Your alliance needs every single member to come together to defend the alliance miracles. (Miracle Defense: Section 6.6.3/6.6.4)
5. You just feel like doing it.

*2.5.3 How to relocate?
After you have gotten your Main City's Castle to Level 3 or above, you will be able to relocate. Just find an empty territory somewhere on the world map (you can go to other factions too) and click on the city in the center of that territory to open the option tab for relocation. After you clicked on it and confirmed your relocation, it will take place instantly. You also need to cancel or complete ALL quests (jobs) that are being processed in any of your cities before you are allowed to relocate.
NOTE:
Relocation is NOT restricted to the same faction. The different Factions are the Diety, Devil, Light and Shadow Maps.
Quote:
Each Faction has they own World Map and NPC Zones.
It means that there may be someone in exactly the same territory/spot as you on the World Map but who is in another Faction.
Everyone that isn't in the same Faction as you will be 8hrs 22mins away from you.
Even if you are next to your Alliance members on the World Map, but in a different Faction to theirs, they will all take 8hrs 22mins to send a fleet to you.
The only way to change your Faction is by Relocating your cities to an empty territory in another Faction.
You can choose which Faction you are viewing by clicking on the icons in the top left corner of the screen when you are in World Map view.
After you Relocate, you will have to wait 14 days before you are allowed to Relocate again.

*2.5.4 Effects
All the landscape outside all your cities will be terraformed instantly, making you lose all your resource production buildings after the move. None of the levels of the buildings inside any of the cities will be affected though. All the cities you have will each be assigned to a random spot in the new territory, except for your Main City which will stay in the middle of the territory.

2.6 Heroes
For a complete guide on Heroes, go no further, it's all here in the Official guide.
Note: The salary you pay to hire Heroes, contrary to the definition of "salary", is a one time payment. That means you just need to pay them once and they will be yours to use, FOR ETERNITY. Unless they die. Then you will need to pay them another time for resurrection.

2.7 Culture-related Technologies
A guide to Cultural Skills here. (Freesky Wikia)
Quote:
Cultural Skills can be researched at the Cultural Institute.
NOTE: Any researched skills/technologies will not just affect one city, they will affect ALL your cities.

Dominance : Increases the number of cities you can control by 1.
Ambition : Increases the number of heroes you can recruit by 1.
Holy Badge : Holy magic power up.
Magic Mark : Devil magic power up.

Section 3

3.0 Commercial Production, Management, Technologies, Increasing Number Of Cities/Your Territory, Terraforming, Commerce Reputation, the Market, Transporting Resources/Parts, Archons
(NOTE: Any Cannons that are stated in Section 3 are Airship Cannons, not the cannons used in Flagships or Cloudports.)

3.1 Resources
*3.1.1 Resource Types
Food, Sandstone, Metal, Wood and Crystals are the resources that can be produced automatically in the game, no matter if you are online or offline, with the amount being produced every hour stated on the right side of the screen. Your main city does NOT come with Desert terrain for Crystal production and building Refineries, so you will either have to Terraform it to get Desert Terrain, or make the city nearest to the desert shown on the Big Map your first Branch City, as it is almost sure to have some Desert Terrain, without the need for any Terraforming. There are also bonuses that can be obtained to increase resource production by a certain percentage:
There is the Archon bonus, which increases resource production through making a hero the Archon of your city, increase in percentage is according to the level of the hero's Light stats, the higher the better.
The Science bonus, which comes from researching Commercial Technology in the Natural Institute.
The Miracle bonus, which comes from your alliance's Light Miracle.
The Item bonus, which comes from purchasing services in your Item Mall with Sky Points.

*3.1.2 Resource Production
Resource production is done through building resource production buildings on the city outskirts. However you need to build resource storage buildings (warehouses) inside your city first before you can build the resource production buildings. The rate of production is increased by upgrading the resource production buildings, though you need to have a warehouse of a higher level than the current level of the resource production building to proceed with upgrading. Simply put, you will need your warehouses to be of a higher level than the corresponding resource production buildings. Also, please note that resources in a city will not disappear if they exceed their warehouses' storage capacities. The resources of those types in that city will just simply stop any further production.

*3.1.3 Resource Usage, Transportation and Safekeeping
Uses of resources:
Food: Food is used to keep your army's morale high.
Sandstone: Used for construction and upgrading of buildings.
Metal: Used in the Arsenal for production of Cannons and Missiles, and the Shipyard for various Cloudport weapons.
Wood: Used in the Carpenter's Workshop for production of Wooden Wings and Wooden Frames, and the Shipyard for various Cloudport weapons.
Crystals: Used in the Energy Workshop for production of Boost Engines and Power Sails, and the Shipyard for various Cloudport weapons.
Transportation:
Resources can be transported to and fro among cities using the market or fleets of Cargo Ships.
Safekeeping:
The resources that you have can be stored in the market for trade at ridiculously high prices, keeping them safe from enemy raids and ensuring that most people will not buy them from you. Even if someone does buy them, you will gain more than you lost, seeing as they were overpriced goods.

3.2 Increasing Number Of Cities/Your Territory
*3.2.1 Why should I increase my number of cities?
More cities means more resource production fields available, which means an increased rate of income for every hour.

*3.2.2 How should I increase my number of cities?
Research Dominance in the Cultural Institute, 1 extra level of Dominance means 1 more city available for you. You also need 1000 gold and 2000 sandstone to create a new city. Then just click on a city inside your territory and choose the option to "Create City" there.

*3.2.3 What is my Territory and how can I tell?
Your territory is the plot of land that you can build your cities in. The cities that allows you the option to create a city in it are all part of your territory. Each territory has 10 cities in total, your Main City being one of them, while the other 9 can be used to create branch cities.

3.3 Terraforming
*3.3.1 What is Terraforming, what are its benefits?
Terraforming is the ability to transform the landscape outside each city completely.
Why do it? Simple, because it saves resources. Here is the modified excerpt from the Official FO Encyclopedia on it:
In general, there are 4 types of resource fields outside of each city. If you upgrade all of them to level 15+, four types of level 15+ warehouses will need to be built. However, it will take a lot of money and time. If you transform four different resource fields into the same type, only one type of level 15 warehouse is required. This will save you a lot of resources and time.

*3.3.2 How to Terraform?
The Official FO guide for it is here.
However, there are some things left unsaid in it, so I'll say them here. Contrary to what the terraforming button says, the Castle Level required for terraforming is actually Level 2 for your Main City, and Level 1 for your branch cities.

*3.3.3 Suggestions on Terraforming
Obviously, the best type of terraform will be 8 types of the same resource fields, or 7 of that type with 3 or more special resource fields included, as each special resource field has a production bonus of 30%. All that is according to the reason given in Section 3.3.1
However, only aim for such high standards of terraforming when you have enough gold and sandstones for the job.

3.4 Parts
*3.4.1 Parts Types
The respective parts that can be produced are:
Cannons and Missiles
Wooden Wings and Wooden Frames
Boost Engines and Power Sails
Advanced Parts

*3.4.2 Parts Production
You will need different factories for production of different parts. There is the Arsenal which produces Cannons and Missiles; the Carpenter's Workshop which produces Wooden Wings and Wooden Frames; and the Energy Workshop which produces Boost Engines and Power Sails. Advanced parts can also be produced in these factories through blueprints using the Advanced Part Production option.
There are also bonuses that can be obtained to increase the speed of parts production:
There is the Archon bonus, which increases resource production through making a hero the Archon of your city, increase in speed is according to the level of the hero's Shadow stats, the higher the better.
The Science bonus, which comes from researching Commercial Technology in the Natural Institute.
The Miracle bonus, which comes from your alliance's Shadow Miracle.
The Item bonus, which comes from purchasing services in your Item Mall with Sky Points.

*3.4.3 Parts Usage, Transportation and Safekeeping
Uses of parts:
Cannons: Used in making Attack Planes and Battleships.
Missiles: Used in making Frigates and Cruisers.
Wooden Wings and Boost Engines: Used in making Recon Ships, Attack Planes and Frigates.
Wooden Frames and Power Sails: Used in making Transport Ships, Battleships and Cruisers.
Advanced Parts: Used in building Flagships.
Transportation:
Parts can be transported to and fro among cities using the market or fleets of Cargo Ships.
Safekeeping:
The parts that you have can be stored in the market for trade at ridiculously high prices, keeping them safe from enemy raids and ensuring that most people will not buy them from you. Even if someone does buy them, you will gain more than you lost, seeing as they were overpriced goods. Advanced Parts and Blueprints do not need to be stored, as they can't be taken from your cities.

3.5 Specializing
*3.5.1 What is it?
Specializing is focusing ALL your effort into mass producing just one type of resource and making huge amounts of its corresponding parts to sell.

*3.5.2 Why do it?
Simple. You save more resources and skill points by just having to research and level up one type of resource/parts production, and you can max out the corresponding technologies faster that way.

*3.5.3 How to go about it?
Well, here is a detailed guide about specializing that will tell you what to do. (adelena's guide)

3.6 Other ways of obtaining resources/parts
*3.6.1 Plundering (NPC and PvP)
You can plunder the cities of other players (and the NPC cities in the NPC Zones) and load resources/parts onto your ships. Though you will first have to defeat any army of theirs floating above the city you are going to plunder.

*3.6.2 Treasure boxes
Opening treasure boxes has a chance of rewarding you with resources/parts, more info in Section 7.3

3.8 Gaining Commerce reputation / The Market (Buying, Selling, Transportation of parts/resources)
*3.8.1 Gaining Commerce reputation
Commerce reputation is made by increasing your Net Profit to exceed your Max Profit. When you exceed your Max Profit: 12 gold = 1 commerce reputation. See next part for details.
Note: If you gain Skill Points through increasing your Max Profit, 1200 gold increase in Max Profit will give you 100 Commerce Reputation, which grants you 1 Skill Point.

**3.8.1.1 Max Profit
Max Profit is a concept which can be explained using the below example:
The first time you ever sell some resources you gain 1000 gold. Now your Net Profit and Max profit is both at 1000 gold.
Next, you buy some parts with 200 gold. Now your Max profit is 1000 gold and your Net profit is: 1000-200=800 gold.
You will need to sell some parts/resources and earn back the 200 gold you spent to be able to balance out your Max Profit and Net Profit again.
Then you will be able to gain commerce rep from any further selling you do after that, as the Net Profit will be able to exceed the Max Profit.

Simply put, you need to earn back more money than how much you just spend.
This is a guide that explains Max Profit well, with pictures included inside. (Kage's guide)
There is also the FO Official Encyclopedia's quote for it here:
Quote:
Why I didn't get reputation after selling parts?
1.To prevent players from gaining reputation by buying and selling parts, or resources without limit. The system will record your highest profit whenever sell parts or resources, and the gold you use to buy parts or resources will be deducted from the highest profit. You can only obtain reputation when your profit exceeds the highest profit.
2.The system records your highest profit when you sell parts or resources. The gold you use to buy parts or resources is deducted from your highest profit. You can only obtain reputation when your profit exceeds your highest profit. This is to prevent players from gaining reputation by buying and selling unlimited parts or resources.
3.For instance, if you earn 1000 gold after selling resources, your highest profit is 1000 gold. Your current profit will decrease to -1000 if you spend 2000 gold buying resources, and then if you earn 1000 gold after selling resources. You won't obtain any reputation because your current profit is 0. In this case you need to sell resources worth over 2000 gold to obtain reputation.
4.You will obtain 1 reputation point if you earn 12 gold by selling resources or parts. The higher the prices, the more reputation you will get after trading. In addition, if the gold or the remaining gold is not enough to be exchanged for reputation, then the gold doesn't count. You'd better do the calculations before trading.
3.9 The Market
*3.9.1 Buying / Selling
Your market can be accessed directly through your city controls. It allows you to sell to the Empire or other players. It also allows you to buy from other players. Selling to the Empire means quick and instant gold, while selling to other players takes more time. However, selling to other players can help you make more profit than selling to the empire, as you can sell for higher prices to other players than you can to the Empire. Each increase in market level will provide you with an extra trade quest (an extra slot to sell/purchase goods). Any trades you make in the market will be calculated based on G and S. G stands for Gold, S stands for Silver, 1 Gold = 1000 Silver.

*3.9.2 Transportation of parts/resources
Market transportation between cities can be accessed through the "Transport resources to other cities" option in your market. Each increase in market level will provide you with an extra transportation quest (an extra slot to transport goods). The load of each transportation quest (the amount of stuff that can be transported) will also be determined by the level of your Cloudport in that city. Each increase in Cloudport level will double the load of the transportation quest.

*3.9.3 Advanced Parts Market
The Advanced Parts Market (I'll refer to it as the APM here) is a place where you can put the Blueprints or Advanced Parts you have up for sale. However, most goods in the APM have a Sky Points price besides the normal gold fee for it. That means most players who do not have Sky Points have a hard time getting the Blueprints or Advanced Parts they need. Such players often approach fellow alliance members to try and find one who is willing to sell a Blueprint/Advanced Part to them WITHOUT the Sky Points price tag. Also, if you put up a trade in the APM and wish to cancel it, you will need to go into the APM's trade list and find your trade out of all the hundereds listed there to cancel it. This is due to the fact that the "Sell List" feature of the APM which is supposed to list all your trades is not working.
NOTE:
A successful trade in the APM involving Sky Points WILL NOT transfer any Sky Points to the seller. The buyer will get the Sky Points deducted while the seller gets Gift Points in place of Sky Points. Gift Points can only be used on purchases in the Item Mall, they cannot be used in player-to-player trades.

3.10 Archons
Castle Archons are Heroes who are appointed to help you look after your cities. They provide 2 types of bonuses to the city they are looking after. Their Light Stats increases resource production speed, while their Shadow stats increases parts processing speed, the higher these stats are, the better the bonuses provided. Castle Archons cannot be sent out to battle, unless you dismiss them from their job as Castle Archon. After dismissing a hero from the job of Castle Archon, you will have to wait 1 hour before they can be appointed as Castle Archon again (they need time to sulk about getting dismissed).
Here is an Official guide to appointing/dismissing Castle Archons.

NOTE: Heroes can also gain experience to level up their stats while they are appointed as your Castle Archons, by selling resources and increasing your Max Profit. As for the experience distribution if there are multiple Castle Archons, there is a guide here. (Wode's guide)

Section 4

4.0 Military [Army: Airship, Flagship (Blueprints)] Production, Management and Technologies, Military Reputation, Emplacements, City Defense (Cloudports/DOCK and Forming Armies), Using airships for transportation of resources/parts, Airships/Flagships that have not been implemented yet.
NOTE: Cloudport and Flagship weapons are sometimes called emplacements by players, though in Section 4 I'll be using the term "cannons" as stated by the in-game Castle Shipyard.

4.1 Airships
*4.1.1 Airship Usage
Airships are basically the different types of lower-ranked soldiers that your army needs. Their job is to take on the enemies with numbers and a good balance of different attack types to acheive victory.

*4.1.2 Airship Types
Offensive types:
Attack Planes: The ones in charge of being pawns. They are often mass produced to wipe out the enemy with huge numbers. Effective against Battleships and Cruisers.
Frigates: The ones in charge of pursuing and taking down the enemies' attack planes.
Battleships: The ones in charge of taking out the enemies' frigates using Long Range Attacks. They can also take down Flagship and Cloudport cannons.
Cruisers: The ones in charge of taking down the enemies's Flagship/Flagship cannons and Cloudport cannons, though if there are none they are only useful for killing Frigates.
Quote:
Quote by Elemein:
Attack Planes (need 20-30) to kill a Battleship or Cruiser.
Frigates (1 frigate can easily wipe out 3) Attack planes.
Cruisers (about 3 will get rid of one) Cannon or Flagship of the same level.
Battleships (1 can easily cut through 5) Frigates.
For a more detailed guide on the different types of offensive airships and their abilities, click here. (Kingspoon's guide)
Non-offensive types:
Cargo Ships: The ones in charge of carrying the spoils of battle, though they would be more than happy to transport goods between cities.
Recon Ships: The ones in charge of spying and telling on other players, as the name implies.

*4.1.3 Airship Production
Recon Planes, Attack Planes and Frigates are produced in the Light Shipyard.
Cargo Ships, Battleships and Cruisers are produced in the Heavy Shipyard.

*4.1.4 Airship Storage
Airships are stored automatically in the city after they are manufactured. They will not get damaged as long as you don't form an army with them. However, they will not defend the city while they are in storage.

4.2 Flagships
*4.2.1 Flagship Usage and differences from airships
Flagships can be considered as the commander and main tanker of the fleet, whose job is to act as bait while the smaller airships go destroy the enemy. Some Flagships also can have attacking power which rivals that of a maxed out Cloudport.

*4.2.2 Flagship Production
Flagships can be player produced through the Cloudport. However, they require a great deal of resources and time to produce.
Here is an Official guide on Flagship production.

*4.2.2.1 How to produce a Flagship? (Blueprints)
Flagships are constructed using Advanced Parts that are made from Blueprints. Please note that Blueprints are one-time use only and will disappear after the Advanced Part based on it is constructed.

**4.2.2.1.1 What are blueprints and how to obtain them?
Blueprints are, as the name implies, blueprints used for constructing an Advanced Part. Blueprints are dropped by NPC Zone Boss Fleets after you defeat them. They can also be obtained from Treasure boxes, more info in Section 7.3

**4.2.2.1.2 Differences in blueprint types
Fire System: Adds more air emplacements (firepower) to your Flagship.
Deck System: Adds more defense to your Flagship.
Power System: Adds more movement speed to your Flagship.
Energy System: Adds more cargo space to your Flagship.
Center System: Adds more HP to your Flagship.
NOTE: The more stars a blueprint has, the better its quality. The parts made from it will also provide better bonuses for the Flagship.
Here is the list of different Blueprints. (nigel's guide)

**4.2.2.1.3 Manufacturing Flagship Parts
Making Flagship Parts (Advanced Parts) is a long and tedious job. The resources and time needed are very much. Different types of Advanced Parts are made in different types of factories using the Advanced Parts Production option.

**4.2.2.1.4 Differences in Flagship types
Currently, there are 4 types of Flagships that are player made in FO.
Offensive Flagship/Heavy Offensive Flagship: Has more HP, Speed and less firepower than a Defensive Flagship.
Defensive Flagship/Heavy Defensive Flagship: Has more defense, cargo space and firepower than an Offensive Flagship.
Here is a better guide on the differences between player made Flagships, there is some info on Blueprints and Advanced Parts in it too. (adelena's guide)
Of course, there is also the Light Flagship, see below for more details.

***4.2.2.1.4.1 Light Flagship
Light Flagship: Comes free with your heroes when you hire or resurrect them.

****4.2.2.1.4.1.1 Can the Light Flagship which comes with my heroes have weapons? Do they have emplacements? Can they be equipped with cannons? Can they be upgraded?
No they don't have any emplacements, can't be equipped with cannons and can't be upgraded, so they have no weapons or attacking power at all.

****4.2.2.1.4.1.2 If so, what are they for?
They can only serve as transport vessels for heroes to join in battles or travel on. It is also the tanker in battle.

*4.2.3 Flagship Maintenance
When a Flagship is damaged, it can be repaired in the Cloudport to recover HP. Player made Flagships will be destroyed permanently and can't be recovered if they don't get repairs and their HP drops to 0, so remember to make regular repairs after battles. The same goes for Light Flagships though you will be able to get a new one for free when you resurrect the hero that died with it.

4.3 Other ways of obtaining airships
*4.3.1 Constructing airships from parts left over from battles
There is a chance of obtaining airships parts from the wreckages of airships left over after battles. You can use these parts to construct new airships in your Light and Heavy Shipyards.

*4.3.2 Treasure boxes
Treasure boxes can give out airships as rewards when you open them, more info in Section 7.3

Piercing Attack: Units with attack type Piercing gets attack increase of 5%.
Why go for higher Tier airships?
The answer is HERE. (Vish and Jarin's guide.) Just make sure to read through the whole thread, the guide is scattered in posts throughout it.
While a guide comparing the respective Tiers' statistics can be found HERE. (ptarth's guide.)

4.5 Gaining Military Reputation
Military reputation can be gained through winning battles with NPCs/Players or occupation of another player's cities. The amount of military reputation you receive in a battle will be equal to the tonnage that you destroyed of the enemy fleet.
Note: 100 Military Reputation will grant you 1 Skill Point.

*4.5.1 Different ratios of Military Reputation gained (Special Cases of Gaining Military Reputation)
Quote:
Q: Why does the other player get more military reputation when I destroyed more of their fleet than they destroyed mine?
A: In battles, it is possible for players to obtain military reputation that is double or more of the tonnage that they actually destroyed of the enemy fleet. Normally, the amount of military reputation you receive in a battle will be equal to the tonnage that you destroyed of the enemy fleet.
However, if one of the players in a battle has a reputation that is 6X or more of the other, the one with less reputation will get an added bonus of military reputation whether they win or lose. Depending on their difference in reputation, they can have a minimum of 2X to a maximum of 4X bonus.
4.6 Emplacements
*4.6.1 What are emplacements?
Emplacements are spaces where cannons can be constructed onto your Cloudport (DOCK), or player made Flagship. They provide your Cloudport and player made Flagships with space to equip themselves with weapons and increase in firepower.

*4.6.2 Types of emplacements and where to find them
**4.6.2.1 Air Emplacements
Air emplacements can be found on player made Flagships. The amount of air emplacements on a player made Flagship can be increased through upgrading the Fire System on board with higher quality Fire System Advanced Parts.

**4.6.2.2 Land Emplacements
Land emplacements can be found in Cloudports (DOCK). The amount of land emplacements in a Cloudport can be increased through upgrading the Cloudport Level.

**4.6.2.3 Large Emplacements
Large emplacements have yet to be implemented, more info in Section 4.9

*4.6.3 Do Light Flagships have emplacements?
No, they do not come with any, more info in Section 4.2.2.1.4.1.1

NOTE: Here are 2 other guides to emplacements:
A quick guide for emplacements. (roy019's guide)
Guide To Emplacements. (4Anarchy20's guide)

4.7 City Defense (Cloudports/DOCK and Forming Armies)
*4.7.1 What are Cloudports for? How do I get a DOCK?
Cloudports are shown as DOCKs in your city Flagship list. Cloudports are places where you can repair any other damaged Flagships that are in the same city. They also provide constant defence for the city they are built in, without the need for any food cost, as long as the player has installed cannons in them. Cloudports can be found under the Castle tab in your City controls, while the Shipyard that builds the cannons for the Cloudport can also be found under the same tab.

*4.7.2 How to form armies? Why should I?
Fleets are formed to defend your city. The message in-game says "If you are in a battle, you will automatically form a Defensive Army to fight against the attacking army." THIS IS NOT TRUE, it is just a mistranslation on the game developer's part. Fleets still need to be formed for them to defend your city. Of course, you can always choose to form fleets *only* when you recieve a report of someone is attacking you to save on food cost, though try to guess what will happen if you are not online? Food Cost is taken from ALL your cities, so no need to worry about army morale falling low due to insufficient food if the total amount of food your cities produce each hour is more than how much you armies consume each hour. Fleets can be formed using the "Form army" option in your city tabs, more info in Section 1.2.1

4.8 Using airships for transportation of resources/parts
*4.8.1 How to use airships for loading and transporting resources?
Resources/parts can be loaded onto your fleet using the "Load" option among the Army tabs that appears when you click on the small image of your fleet below the city they are in (the little airship image), while using the Big Map view. Then you choose where you want your fleet to go using the "Head To" option among the Army tabs. You can only do this in your own territory and the NPC Zones, though when you are plundering other players you can also use the "Load" option on their cities after defeating their defence army to plunder their resources/parts. For transporting resources to your alliance's miracles, just load what you want to transport onto a fleet and choose the "Dispatch the teleportation Army to the Miracle Village" option that appears when you click on your alliance's miracles. However, to dispatch resources to your alliance's miracles, you need to have been in the alliance for at least 20 days.

*4.8.2 Load Capacity
Fleets have a maximum capacity for the resources/parts that they can carry. This capacity is mostly determined by the amount of Cargo Ships in the fleet. Higher Tier Cargo Ships have a faster travel speed and bigger cargo capacity than lower Tier Cargo Ships, while Recon Planes have no cargo capacity at all.

4.9 Airships/Flagships that have not been implemented yet.
These are the Airships and Flagships that have not been implemented into the game yet:
Airships:
Aircraft Carriers series (Motherships): Speculation by players that they will be able to carry Attack Planes on them.
Flagships:
Sky Fortresses: Supposed to have Large Emplacements on them, and speculated to have even more firepower than a maxed out Heavy Defensive Flagship.

Section 5

5.0 Battles (PvP and NPCs), Ensuring Victory, Occupation, Plundering, Intelligence Reports/Scouting, Fleet Magic

5.1 Battle requirements
*5.1.1 What Determines Your Victory?
Many factors are to be taken into consideration as to whether you win or lose a battle. Some of them are listed below. However, there may be other factors that are NOT listed, so the best way to find out all of it is to gain some personal experience in battles. JUST GO ON A RAMPAGE!!!!! (The ones below are still worth reading though.)

**5.1.1.1 Having a balanced fleet
The enemy will most likely have a balanced fleet where the airships in it can compensate for the weaknesses of each other. So, the same shall go for you too.

**5.1.1.2 Airship types
In FO, the airship battle system has a style where one type of airship is the natural enemy of another. Huge numbers of airships can indeed give you a huge advantage in battle. However, this system WILL also give you an edge in battle too. Here is the list of what is good against what:
        Frigates ---kills--> Attack Planes
Attack Planes ---kills--> Battleships
    Battleships ---kills--> Frigates
Cruiser ---kills--> Flagships, Cloudports, Battleships and Cruisers
More info here. (kingspoon's guide)
Or here. (FO Facebook)

**5.1.1.3 Flagship cannons
Just as airships have different types of attacks, the different types of cannons on your Flagship is the same, providing different types of attacks targeting different types of enemies. So, maintaining a good balance of cannon types, or focusing on one type of cannon, are commonly seen effective strategies used by players.
Here is a guide with info about balancing the types of cannons on your Flagships. (adelena's guide)

**5.1.1.4 Tonnage
Tonnage. Simple way to put it: SIZE MATTERS! The bigger your fleet's tonnage, the better, for you will be able to kill your enemies even faster and reduce the damage done to your own fleet. Just remember to balance your fleet's airship types. A 100K tonnage fleet of Tier 1 Cruisers won't do much damage whatsoever to a 50K tonnage fleet of Tier 1 Attack Planes, and will get annihilated just as easily.

**5.1.1.5 Investigating
Information. Before you pick a fight, it is always wise to find out just exactly what type of oppenent you are facing. Charging into battle without knowing anything about the opponent's strength is just plain foolish. This is where those handy Recon Ships come into use. They will be able to sniff out the valueble information that you need for battle, though how much information you get will depend on the level of your Intelligence Skill in the Cultural Institute, the higher its level the better. They are also highly efficient and can get most spying jobs done within a few minutes, so it won't hurt too much of your time to spy on your opponent a little bit before you decide to embark on that half-hour journey of invasion.

**5.1.1.6 Morale and Weariness
Just like the real world, the spirit and stamina of your army will affect your battles.
Morale will fall when there is no food, and you will have to wait for your cities to produce enough food to rise it back up.
Weariness comes from the work done in each battle, so you will have to let your army rest and avoid joining a battle instantly after you just finished one.
Morale and Weariness each affects 50% of your army's fighting effectiveness, so remember to keep Morale at 100% and Weariness at 0% to have your army fighting at full strength.

5.2 Occupation
Occupation is when you invade and take over another player's city for a set amount of time to collect gold taxes from them.
NOTE: Occupation does NOT mean taking over that city completely. It has a time limit and you CAN'T control that city.

*5.2.1 Why occupy?
You may recieve gold and military reputation from occupation (the gold you get from occupation taxes will count towards military reputation instead of commerce reputation).

*5.2.2 How to occupy?
To occupy another player's city, you will first have to declare war on them. Then you may send your army to occupy them city using the "Attack" option that shows up when you click on the city that you want to invade. After successfully defeating them defense fleet, and if your army's tonnage is more than 1/10 of your target city's MAXIMUM POSSIBLE POPULATION, your army will occupy the city successfully. However, another Lord can also attempt to occupy the city that has been occupied by you. They will fail to do so if their military reputation is lower than yours, and succeed if their military reputation is higher than yours (There will not be any airship battles between the 2 occupiers). You can't occupy the same player continuously, you can only do so every 12 hours. At most, you can only occupy half of the other player's total number of cities at the same time, a thread about it is here.
NOTE: Anyways, the occupation time is directly related to the castle level of the city that was occupied.
Quote:
The occupation tax for a Level 1 castle is 25%, the tax collection will last 6 hours.
The occupation tax for a Level 2 castle is 40%, the tax collection will last 12 hours.
The occupation tax for a Level 3 castle is 55%, the tax collection will last 24 hours.
The occupation tax for a Level 4 castle is 70%, the tax collection will last 36 hours.
The occupation tax for a Level 5 castle is 85%, the tax collection will last 36 hours.
After successful occupation, the taxes will be collected every 12 hours.
*5.2.3 How to prevent/stop an occupation by another player?
There are many different views on this subject, here are a few guides that may help you out: (Mostly taken from KamotoLegion's LINKS OF KNOWLEDGE)
Forgotten Tactics II by iamin7ove
Occupation Resistance! A Guide to Rebeling by FamiliarEnemy
So your a Duck by Sensejpl
Operation Paper Tiger! by adelenachew
You can also undo it by making peace with your attacker. (Make peace and stop declaring war)

5.3 Plundering
Plundering is when you invade and steal resources from another player's city.

*5.3.1 Why plunder?
You may get resources/parts and military reputation from plundering.

*5.3.2 How to plunder?
To plunder another player's city, you will first have to declare war on them. Then you may send your army to plunder their city using the "Attack" option that shows up when you click on the city that you want to invade. After successfully defeating their defense fleet, you are free to plunder what you want from their city using the "Load" option of your army floating over their city, as long as your army has enough cargo space to store the resources/parts you want. However, you can't plunder players whose Lord is below Level 2, or if your reputation is more than 5 times theirs. At most, you can only plunder half of the other player's total number of cities at the same time.
There is a guide to plundering players here. (Sensejpl's guide)

*5.3.3 How to prevent/stop a plunder by another player?
Well, you can't stop them actually, though you can prevent them from stealing most of your resources/parts by safekeeping them in the market, more info in Section 3.1.3/3.4.3
(You can also choose to store your army too, in order to reduce the losses you suffer.)
You should also take a look at the guides listed in Section 5.2.3

Section 5 (continued)

5.4 PvP battles
*5.4.1 Normal PvP battles
Normal PvP battles include occupation and plundering. All battles take place above the defending player's cities.

*5.4.2 NPC zone PvPing
NPC Zone PvPing takes place when player fleets meet above NPC cities, inside NPC Zones with a Safety Level of Ordinary or above.

*5.4.3 Miracle battles
Miracle battles are just like normal city battles, except that the miracle can't be occupied, and the alliance that owns the miracle can have its members send multiple fleets to defend it.

5.5 NPC battles
*5.5.1 Enhanced Beast Armies
Enhanced Beast Armies can be found in the unoccupied cities in the FO world. You can send your fleet to attack them directly by using the "Scout" option that pops up when you click on an unoccupied city. If you don't find a beast army on your first try, try a few more times on the same city and you will find them.
There is a limit to the number of times you can scout the Enhanced Beast Armies per day:
Quote:
Level 1 Lords: 100
Level 2 Lords: 100
Level 3 Lords: 50
Level 4 Lords: 20
Level 5 Lords: 20
About Enhanced Beast Armies. (jhbalto's guide)

*5.5.2 Floating Unicorn Armies
Floating Unicorn Armies can be found hovering above one of the cities in your territory. To attack them, simply use the "Head To" option in your army tabs to head to the city where they are located. The battle will take place automatically upon fleet arrival. Other players are unable to use the "Head To" option on cities ouside their own territory, so they will not be able to fight your Floating Unicorn Army.

NOTE: Contrary to most people's thoughts, the Floating Unicorn Armies are neutral and will not attack your cities. They will only battle with your airships when you send your fleet to their location.

*5.5.3 NPC Zone
NPC Zones are special in-game areas where there are large amounts of strong NPC fleets and cities for you to attack and loot. You can stay in the NPC zones for 6 hours per day. You will be teleported out of the NPC zone when time expires. However, if you purchase VIP service in the Item Mall, you will be able to spend an extra 3 hours in the NPC zones.
NOTE:
NPC Zones all have their respective Lord Level limts:
If your Lord Level does not fulfill the requirements, you will not be able to enter the NPC Zone. If your Lord Level rises above the NPC Zone's Level limit while you are in it, you will not be able to have anymore NPC/PvP battles, though you will be free to loot the NPC cities to your heart's content.
NPC Zones also have different levels of danger, the 3 levels are:
Safe: PvP is not allowed here, but you can attack NPC Armies.
Common: Only players who are In Battle State can enter, PvP is allowed between In Battle State players.
Dangerous: After an Alliance declares sovereignty on the NPC zone, Neutral State players who belong to that Alliance can enter that particular "Dangerous" level NPC zone. (Normally Neutral State players can only enter the "Safe" NPC Zones.) In these NPC Zones, PvP against anyone is allowed.
NOTE:
Here is a guide on NPC Zones by Nekher, it is split into 2 parts:
NPC Part 1 guide by Nekher
NPC Part 2 guide by Nekher

Another useful guide to NPC Zones here. (Foarl's guide)

**5.5.3.1 How to get into NPC Zones / Transition Crystals
Just form a fleet and choose the "Transit to the NPC zone" option on the army tabs. Transition Crystals are the "tickets" used for going into NPC Zones (without them you cannot go in), more info in Section 7.6

**5.5.3.2 Navigating in NPC Zones
When you first enter a NPC Zone, your fleet will be at the bottom of the map, in the safety zone where no battles are allowed. You will have to click on your fleet and choose which NPC city you want your fleet to head to. In the NPC Zones, you will have a limited field of vision, you can enlarge it by bringing higher Tier Recon Ships with your fleet. It is best to view the NPC Zone on the World Map before going into it, to plot a route for your fleet to follow and make the most out of the 6 hours you are allowed in it.

**5.5.3.3 Types of NPC Fleets in NPC Zones
There are mainly 2 types of fleets in NPC Zones.
Normal NPC Zone Fleets: They can be found in the cities surrounding the NPC Capital, which is in the center of the NPC Zone.
Boss NPC Zone Fleet: It can be found in the NPC Capital in the center of the NPC Zone. It has a bigger tonnage than normal NPC Zone Fleets, and a Flagship. It will drop a random Blueprint when defeated.

NOTE: Defeating Boss Fleets in NPC Zones of "Dangerous" level will grant you the option to declare sovereignty on it for your alliance. Doing so will grant your alliance bragging rights, display your alliance logo over the picture of it in the World Map, and enable Neutral State players in your alliance to enter that NPC Zone. Neutral State players are players who have declared neutrality and can be occupied without a fight, and who normally cannot enter NPC Zones that are above "Safe" level. So the biggest benefit of declaring sovereignty on a "Dangerous" NPC Zone is letting the Neutral State players in your alliance have the privilege of going into an NPC Zone other than the 13th Western Market and Ghost Ruins NPC Zones.
However, even after an alliance has declared sovereignty on an NPC Zone, the alliance members will STILL have to use a transition crystal for every entrance they make into it.
The maximum number of "Dangerous" NPC Zones your alliance can declare sovereignty on is 36. (All the "Dangerous" NPC Zones in a single server, 9 for each Faction.) However, it is still possible for another alliance to declare sovereignty on NPC Zones belonging to your alliance, as long as they defeat the Boss Fleet in it.

**5.5.3.4 List of NPC Zones (NPC Fleets Tonnage and resources provided)
The list is here, it is a very useful and popular guide by nigel, it even has videos.

5.6 Intelligences reports/Scouting
*5.6.1 What are Intelligence reports for?
They show a report on the strength of your opponents, to help you make a better decision regarding your planned invasion. However, it is currently a little messed-up. The part in the report that says "Garrison information in the city" actually refers to the fleet that is out floating and defending the city, while the part that says "Airship information in the city" refers to the stored airships inside the city that will not defend.

*5.6.2 How do I scout?
Send a Recon Ship to the city you want to spy on using the "Investigate" option that pops up when you click on that city. Higher Tier Recon Ships can complete their investigation faster due to increased travelling speed. Currently you can only investigate other players' cities and other alliances' miracles.

*5.6.3 What affects the quality of the reports I receive?
The level of the Intelligence Skill in your Cultural Institute affects the quality of the reports. The higher its level is, the more information you should be able to get. However, if the opponent's level of Intelligence is much higher than yours, it will reduce the amount of information you are able to get from spying their cities.

5.7 Fleet Magic
Fleet Magic may refer to the magic that is casted by heroes in airship battles, and the magic that is player-casted on airship fleets while they are travelling.
Fleet Magic casted in airship battles:
Attack Buff: Takes the form of a red magic circle appearing from your Hero's Flagship and all airships in the fleet will gain a temporary boost in attack, while a red magic circle will appear below them. The higher your hero's Diety stats, the better its effect.
Defense Buff: Takes the form of a blue magic circle appearing from your Hero's Flagship and all airships in the fleet will gain a temporary boost in defense, while a half-transparent blue spherical defense shield will surround them. The higher your hero's Devil stats, the better its effect.
Fleet Magic used during airship travels:
Fleet Magic used during airship travels are activated by the player through the "Use Magic" option on the army tabs. They cost 30 mana each, while the type of mana deducted is dependant on which type of magic is used. All of them have a limited time limit before the magic wears off.
(Diety magic) Slow March: Slows down the fleet and doubles the travelling time of it. (10 minutes duration)
(Devil magic) Double Time: Speeds up the fleet and reduces the travelling time of it by half. (30 minutes duration)
(Light magic) Teleport: Creates a teleportation portal for your fleet to let it get to its destination faster. (10 minutes duration) (Currently bugged)
(Shadow magic) Stealth: Conceals your fleet so that it is invisible to others. (10 minutes duration)

5.8 Other FAQs
Q: Why can't I get complete scout reports even when my intelligence skill's level is already very high?
A: No definite answer as of now, though maybe this thread would give you some insight into the matter.
